Laboratory Co-ordinator

Role Description

1. Run the laboratory, sorting out problems as they arise, and supervising demonstrators.
2. Arrange staff demonstrating schedule. Give clear guidance to technical support on work to be done, timetable and priorities.
3. Arrange appropriate training and/or briefing of personnel involved in demonstrating.
4. Arrange sharing of knowledge among the demonstrators directed at better understanding of experiments and criteria of marking.
5. Ensure that appropriate number of experiments are completed and marked.
6. Improve the marking and recording systems, maintaining records of component and combined marks.
7. Allocate projects, co-ordinate running and assessment of projects.
8. Operate an appropriate moderation scheme in order to ensure that marks from different demonstrators are moderated.
9. Investigate missing marks and annotate the marksheet in accordance with the missing-marks procedure.
10. Ensure that students receive appropriate guidance and formative feedback.
11. Monitor student attendance, notify the Stage Co-ordinator of absences. Issue students who been absent twice in one semester with a copy of the Department's Warning Form and return the signed receipt to the Education Support Office.
12. Co-ordinate development of new experiments and improvement of existing ones.
13. Collect student feedback on running the laboratory.

1. Identify supervisors, second supervisors and projects, including theorectial projects
